Terrell Appointed Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges

LINCOLN – Governor Ricketts appointed Marjean Terrell of Hay Springs to the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges. Terrell was appointed to complete the term vacated by Michelle Suarez in December of 2019. The Nebraska Legislature will hold a committee hearing, debate, and vote to confirm the appointment.

“It is an honor to be appointed to the Nebraska State Colleges Board of Trustees,” said Marjean Terrell. “Thank you, Governor Ricketts, for selecting me for this appointment. I look forward to serving alongside my fellow Board members to build upon the great work that the State Colleges do to positively impact students and Nebraska.”

Terrell and her husband own and operate a family farm and ranch. She has served on various boards including the Chadron State Foundation for eight years, the Northwest Rural Public Power District for 12 years, the Western Nebraska Community College Board of Governors for six years, and many other local and county boards and organizations. Marjean worked as a medical technologist and was an adjunct faculty member at Chadron State for several years. She received her Bachelors’ in Medical Technology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

"On behalf of the Nebraska State Colleges and the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to welcome Marjean Terrell to the Board,” said Gary Bieganski, Chair of the Board. “Her agricultural background and past experience as an instructor and medical training will be insightful and valued by the Board.”

The Board of Trustees has seven members, six of whom are appointed by the governor to six-year terms with legislative approval. Trustees are responsible for the governance and oversight of Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State Colleges. The seventh member is the commissioner of education, who serves as an ex-officio member of the board. The governor also annually appoints a non-voting student trustee from each college.

The Board of Trustees hold public meetings five to eight times a year.
